FAQ: How to Prevent and Treat Ingrown Hairs

Short answer: Ingrown hairs are those annoying little bumps that happen when your hair gets trapped under your skin instead of growing out smoothly. At Garden Artistry, I don’t just wax, I help you actually fix and prevent those bumps so your skin stays happy and smooth for longer.

If you’ve ever felt frustrated by itchy, painful bumps after shaving or waxing, you’re definitely not alone. Ingrown hairs are super common, but that doesn’t mean you have to live with them. I’m here to help you understand why they happen and build a routine that actually works with your body, not against it.

  • Ingrown hairs happen when hair curls back or grows sideways under the skin instead of out. But here’s the kicker: if those hairs don’t get properly removed or if your skin’s barrier isn’t cared for, those little rebels get trapped and cause irritation, bumps, and sometimes infection.

At Garden Artistry, during your first Brazilian (and every wax), I take the time to carefully extract any ingrowns.

  • Waxing isn’t just a one-and-done deal. It’s about creating a system that fits your unique skin and hair type. After removing ingrowns, I talk you through personalized skin care tips and habits that help prevent new bumps from popping up.

    This includes:

    • Proper exfoliation timing

    • Aftercare products tailored for your skin & routine

    • Clothing and lifestyle tips to avoid irritation

  • Exfoliate gently 1-2 times a week, but not right before waxing! This is the #1 to stop ingrowns in their tracks.

    • Keep your skin moisturized daily with non-comedogenic products.

    • Used a Chemical Exfoliant to flush out clogs from the inside out.

    • Avoid shaving between waxes to keep hair growing evenly.

    • Follow the 24 3 S’s Rule

    • Apply hydrocortisone cream to calm irritation & help prevent picking

    • Apply warm compresses on any ingrowns to soothe irritation and encourage hairs to surface.

    • Use a Fur Microdart or pimple patch to target and treat the bump

  • If you’re tired of waxing or shaving experiences that leave you with bumps and irritation, it’s time for a better way. At Garden Artistry in Las Vegas near Blue Diamond.

I’m a solo waxer, which means I’m focused entirely on you, removing ingrowns, sharing expert tips, and making sure your waxing experience leaves you feeling confident, comfortable, and cared for.
